.925 Silver Union WISCONSIN State Coat Of Arms Button Civil War Relic Pendant
This listing is for a very unique, hand-made sterling silver pendant, designed for Civil War relic hunters, metal detecting enthusiasts and history buffs in-general. My name is Leonard Short and I have combined my two careers of goldsmith/jewelry designer and artifact restoration to create a line of metal detecting jewelry. This pendant is a precision replica, modeled from a Union, WISCONSIN State Coat of Arms Militia button (Alberts WC1 / WC200D) that was worn during the American Civil War primarily on uniforms of soldiers in the 4th through 8th Wisconsin regiments.
This pendant is NOT an actual Civil-War period artifact!!
Unlike most State buttons, the Wisconsin buttons were made mostly during the Civil War from about 1860 to 1865. This style of Wisconsin button was the only design (with four die variations) that represented the State of Wisconsin during the Civil War. All variants, including this one, were produced by the Scovill Maunfacturing Company, located in Waterbury, Connecticut.
The button's design incorporates the State coat of arms. The Wisconsin Coat Of Arms was designed by Governor Nelson Dewey and Edward Ryan in 1851. The central portion of the Arms consists of a large shield. On this shield are: a plow (representing the State's agriculture), an arm/hand gripping a hammer (representing manufacturing), an anchor (representing trade) and a crossed shovel & pick (representing mining). Also in the larger shield is a smaller, shield of the United States as well as a banner with the words, E PLURIBUS UNUM. At the base of the large shield are two cornucopias. The large shield is flanked with a sailor on one side and a yeoman on the other. The crest of the design is a badger and above the crest is the motto: FORWARD. The button's coat of arms design is superimposed on a lined background. All details of this button's design are sharp and crisp in the execution of the silver pendant replica.
The bail on this pendant is uniquely crafted with long-term wear in mind. It has an opening that measures 3mm x 6mm in order to accommodate a very substantial chain. In addition, the bail has my signature, hinge mechanism.
If you are in need of a nice sterling silver chain on which to wear the pendant, please check out my other listings. My recommended chain style for my pendant line is a 2.5 mm diameter sterling silver wheat style chain. There are several listings for the following lengths: 18" , 20", 24” and 30”.
This is a unique pendant design that you will not find anywhere else!
Shipping is $8 in the United States. (Other destinations will require a calculation on shipping).
