Sterling Silver Union VERMONT State Coat Of Arms Button Civil War Relic Pendant

Sterling Silver Union VERMONT State Coat Of Arms Button Civil War Relic Pendant

This listing is for a very unique, hand-made sterling silver pendant, designed for Civil War relic hunters, metal detecting enthusiasts and history buffs in-general. My name is Leonard Short and I have combined my two careers of goldsmith/jewelry designer and artifact restoration to create a line of metal detecting jewelry. This pendant is a precision replica, modeled from a Union, VERMONT State Coat of Arms Militia button (Alberts VT9 / VT230A) that was worn during the American Civil War on uniforms of Vermont soldiers.
This pendant is NOT an actual Civil-War period artifact!!

Like most other State buttons, the Vermont buttons were made prior to the Civil War for State units but they were also produced for the State's troops throughout the Civil War. This style of Vermont button was one of multiple design variations used during the Civil War. This particular die variant was produced by the Scovill Maunfacturing Company, located in Waterbury, Connecticut.
The button's design incorporates the State coat of arms. The Vermont Coat Of Arms closely resembles the State Seal, which was designed by Ira Allen (brother of Ethan Allen) in about 1778. The Coat of Arms depicts a shield with a cow and sheaves of wheat in the foreground ( the sheaves are absent in this particular button design) and in the background are mountains and a single large pine tree. The crest of the design is a buck deer's head. Embossed on a banner beneath the shield is the State's motto: "FREEDOM & UNITY". In addition to the Coat Of Arms design on the button is the word "VERMONT" and 13 stars on the perimeter. The button's coat of arms design is superimposed on a lined background. All details of this button's design are sharp and crisp in the execution of the silver pendant replica.
The bail on this pendant is uniquely crafted with long-term wear in mind. It has an opening that measures 3mm x 6mm in order to accommodate a very substantial chain. In addition, the bail has my signature, hinge mechanism.

If you are in need of a nice sterling silver chain on which to wear the pendant, please check out my other listings. My recommended chain style for my pendant line is a 2.5 mm diameter sterling silver wheat style chain. I have two listings: one for a 20" wheat and one for an 18".

This is a unique pendant design that you will not find anywhere else!

Shipping is $7.10 in the United States. (Other destinations will require a calculation on shipping).
